Values and value base
True, Healthy and Creative
Nordvestlandet Folk High School has a short but broad vision: TRUE, HEALTHY and CREATIVE.
These three short words encompass much of what we want to be, hold and create.
True
We want to be trustworthy and Jesus-inspired. We will have good values, genuine commitment, and we stand for quality and competence.
Healthy
We want to be warm and inclusive. We want to spread joy and hope. We want to encourage responsibility, tolerance and resilient self-esteem. We want to inspire an active, healthy, nature-friendly and drug-free lifestyle. We want to be a place where friendships for life are established.
Creative
We want to challenge and develop. We want to create change and refinement. We want to inspire creativity and create opportunities, vitality, faith, meaning and community.
The vision of Nordvestlandet Folk High School is to pass on the good values of the folk high school tradition, while at the same time wanting to be vibrant, life-giving, open, truth-seeking and innovative.
We want our vision to form the basis for all activities at the school, and not just be platitudes for use in documents and speeches. The vision is intended to provide both direction and reflection on a daily basis: What is a good folk high school? Because what makes students feel good is usually both true and healthy, and it creates something.
Conversely, if something is untrue or unhealthy - and does not create development, life, hope or meaning in any way - then it is not particularly valuable.
Christian school
Nordvestlandet Folk High School is a Christian school that is open to everyone regardless of beliefs, faith or background. Many of the students who come here make Christian friends for the first time and many exciting conversations are created in the meeting between different world views and different beliefs.
It is important for the school that our values are conveyed through what we do. We want charity, forgiveness, respect and consideration to characterize the entire school. We also want to communicate what we believe in through morning assemblies and voluntary evening assemblies. Every morning, all pupils gather for the "song of the week", a morning word and information about the day.
At "Kvilepuls " every Sunday evening, you can come and let the calm settle in your body. Here we listen to music, sing together and a teacher or fellow pupil shares something about their faith or life. Many students want to join a discussion group at a teacher's home, where important and less important issues are the subject of interesting discussions.
Solidarity project
The folk high school year is a year in which you are challenged to look beyond your own shoe top or our national borders. Every fall, Nordvestlandet Folk High School has a solidarity project where we collect funds that are used to help people who are disadvantaged in other countries.
We also learn about different aspects of aid and discuss North/South issues. All students will have the opportunity to participate and support the projects. Money is raised in creative and fun ways. Those who travel to Kenya and Bali get to visit organizations and people working on similar projects that we raise money for.
The school's solidarity project is called "Like Mye Verdt". Like Mye Verdt is an umbrella term for Normission's projects focusing on girls' and women's rights in Bangladesh, India and Nepal. The projects focus on education, self-help groups, rehabilitation and vocational training for girls and women exposed to prostitution and human trafficking.
